Politician Files Complaint Against Education Minister Over Alleged Conflict of Interest

Main news | By Correspondent January 22, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Politician Elvis de Andrade of the Union i Progreso party has filed a formal complaint against Sithree van Heydoorn, the current Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

The complaint was submitted on Wednesday. According to De Andrade, Van Heydoorn should never have passed the mandatory screening process and therefore should not have been sworn in as a minister. He argues that ministers are legally prohibited from holding secondary functions, while Van Heydoorn is allegedly serving as chairman of Movementu Futuro Kòrsou, a political party and association registered with the Curaçao Chamber of Commerce.

De Andrade maintains that holding such a position is incompatible with ministerial office and constitutes a violation of the law. He has called on authorities to investigate the matter and assess whether the appointment complied with legal requirements.

It is not the first time De Andrade has filed complaints against political officeholders; he has previously taken similar action against other politicians. At this stage, no official response has been issued by Minister Van Heydoorn or the government regarding the allegations.
