WILLEMSTAD - The number of corona infections in Curaçao is increasing significantly. The number has now risen to more than four hundred cases. Nevertheless, the holiday destination still remains marked "yellow" on the corona card. So tourist can still go there for a holiday. But is that wise?

The travel advice for Curaçao is still: traveling is possible but be vigilant, there are risks. Travel is therefore not discouraged. Despite the increasing number of infections, the color code of the island has not changed: it remains yellow.

EditieNL spoke to the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Eugene Rhuggenaath. He emphasizes that tourists are still welcome. "Absolutely. We have enough measures so I certainly welcome them here on Curaçao.”

“Where the biggest infections are currently taking place is in the family sphere,” he continues. "We have enough people to help monitor that everyone can enjoy a safe holiday."

Rhuggenaath explains that tourists are required to take a PCR test before coming to the island and that the Ministry of Health calls everyone every four days to ask if there are any symptoms. Family visits to the island can also continue as usual.

The Netherlands will not change travel advice for the island either. "We are keeping a close eye on it, but we are not yet going to recommend changing the color to orange," said a spokesman for the Dutch Ministry of Health. “Local rules must be observed very closely. Use your common sense, that is our heartfelt advice.”
