Public Health Inspectorate satisfied with resumption of elective care CMC

Main news | By Correspondent November 8, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - For the time being, the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) adheres to the instructions of the Public Health Inspectorate (IVG). This is according to Inspector General Sirving Keli. In the first week after the resumption of elective care for SVB (Social Insurance Bank) patients, 33 surgeries were planned.

At the end of September, the hospital sounded the alarm. As of October 1, the CMC stopped all non-elective medical treatments for patients of the Social Insurance Bank. The money that the SVB has made available for 2021 did not cover all the costs of the hospital. After a formal instruction from the IVG and an advance of 4.1 million guilders from the government, the CMC decided to resume elective care from 1 November.

According to the management, the Planning Department has calculated that about three hundred surgeries can take place this month, 240 of which are of patients insured at the Social Insurance Bank. In response to that planning, Keli stated that the Inspectorate is pleased with the compliance with the instruction given by the Health Inspectorate. One of the conditions is that the waiting list must be shortened by rescheduling the canceled operations.
