Record amount of waste disposed at Selikor: 32 million kilos

Main news | By Correspondent November 5, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao has decided to extend the project for free waste disposal at Selikor’s disposal sites until December 31 of next year. This decision follows the success of the project’s initial months, during which a record amount of 32 million kilos of waste was disposed of in September. Typically, around 9 million kilos are disposed of.

The free waste disposal project, aimed at reducing illegal dumping in Curaçao, has proven effective according to the government. The initiative encourages residents to remove their waste legally, as disposal costs are no longer a barrier. This improvement enhances the livability of the island and reduces environmental impact.

In addition to the free disposal project, the "Di bo, Pa bo, Ku bo" campaign will continue through the end of December 2024. This cleanup and awareness campaign focuses on increasing environmental consciousness and actively addressing litter. Throughout various neighborhoods, disposal containers will be placed over three consecutive weekends to make it easier for residents to dispose of their waste.
