Research platform Investico: “The gambling sector rules in Curaçao”

Main news | By Correspondent May 25, 2022

AMSTERDAM - “Curaçao is a free state for internationally operating criminal organizations that launder their billions of profits through online casinos in Willemstad. They are facilitated by Curaçao legislation, politicians, wholesalers in sub-licenses, trust offices, accountants and lawyers, while they have nothing to fear from the Public Prosecution Service and even judges,” can be concluded from the investigative work of the journalistic research platform Investico. “The gambling sector rules in Curaçao”, the conclusion reads.

The report published today, including underlying documents, makes it clear why the gambling sector is not waiting for attention. Master licensee Cyberluck went so far as to sue in court for a ban on the publication. It fits in with the strategy of the Curaçao gambling mafia to sue critical journalists who do not succumb to intimidation.

Spicy in the article by Investico is the reference to 'the trust king of Curaçao', Gregory Elias. According to the investigative journalists, he has been at the basis of the current uncontrolled trade in sub-licenses that does not make a cent for Curaçao society, but gives the country a bad reputation in the financial world. Although several gambling companies (on paper) are located at his Landhuis Joonchi office address, Elias denies involvement in the sector.

The weekly magazine De Groene Amsterdammer and the radio program Argos also pay attention this week to the Curacao gambling sector.
