RKCS will start with a teacher shortage next school year

Main news | By Correspondent July 19, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Roman Catholic Central School Board (RKCS) will start the coming school year with a shortage of teachers.

As in other years, not all vacancies for the coming school year have been filled. According to the school board, the corona crisis is playing a major role this time. "We see very clearly how the economic situation in Curaçao has led people to make different choices," says RKCS director Royla Pierre.

Many teachers decide to emigrate, also if their partners decide to do so. The school board experienced this, for example, when many former refinery employees emigrated with their families for employment abroad. Many teachers also leave early voluntarily as a result of the recently implemented VVU (Early Voluntary Outflow) scheme.
