WILLEMSTAD - 5th Rotary Walking Dinner in Pietermaai with 16 restaurants and more than 500 guests was a great success. Over 44,000 guilders have been raised for the charity that is ‘Literacy’ this year. According to Rotary, reading is a basic condition for peace. Rotary, in collaboration with many other initiatives, is making efforts to improve the collection of reading books at primary schools in all barios. Through this commitment, the goal is to encourage young people to read, reading is fun for good personal development.
Two years ago, charity was “Math” and the Tur Ta Konta Foundation was helped. Last year the proceeds were the start for the purchase of the new 3D mom paragraph for Fundashon Prevenshon, which recently also opened the new Prevention Center.
During the opening speech, Barbara Halabi from the Johan van Walbeeckschool talked about their new library, which was partly created by Rotary Club Willemstad, and the improved reading experience of the children. During the evening, the young artists of Drazans read parts from children's books.
The Rotary Walking Dinner is supported by the 16 great restaurants that in this way make a nice contribution to the development of the youth as well as by I-Design, Tramm, RadioHoyer, APC, Ixora, Tovari, Licores Maduro, Tibbaa, Drazans, La Vie Rose and Bos di hubentut with their security bike team.
