Schools remain open during lockdown

WILLEMSTAD - This morning during the government’s briefing, Minister of Education Steven Croes announced that the schools will remain open during the lockdown. According to the minister, children are less contagious, from an epidemiological point of view there is no reason to close the schools, and backlog in education must be prevented, especially with the test weeks ahead.

Schools themselves must take care of the wellbeing of the children so that they can receive education in a safe way. Schools can also prepare if further scaling up is required.

Croes advises schools to use this week to prepare in case the number of infections increases even further. Then the schools will be closed, and they must have made their preparations so that children can receive education at home.

With regard to driving on license plate of the day (Plachi di Dia), children can be taken to school between 4.30 am and 8 am. This is also possible between 12:00 and 14:00 to pick them up from school. Children can also be taken to after-school care. Schools must be closed at 1.15 pm. From 2 pm Plachi di Dia applies again.

Vocational training courses, the university and evening courses must provide virtual classes. Teaching staff may be on the street between 4.30 am and 8 am and between 12 noon and 2 pm. After 2 p.m. Plachi di Dia applies.

All activities outside of school will be canceled and are not allowed. After-school care will remains open.
