Security policy for the Caribbean is significantly delayed

Main news | By Correspondent October 5, 2021

THE HAGUE - The formulation of an updated security policy for the Caribbean region is experiencing significant delays. That is according to the Dutch Minister of Defense Henk Kamp in a letter to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament.

“Your Chamber was informed on 25 June about the formulation of the Defense security policy for the Caribbean region, which is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2021. Unfortunately, I have to inform you that the deadline set by the Defense organization has proved unfeasible.”

According to the minister, "more time is needed for careful reflection on current and future threats and the way in which Defense is currently and in the future fulfilling its main tasks." Kamp says that the aim is to have the Defense security policy for the Caribbean region ready by mid-2022.
