Sédula and the period of validity during the pandemic in Curaçao

Main news | By Curaçao government January 4, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Public Affairs (Kranshi) of the Ministry of Administration, Planning & Services announces that the validity period of identity cards, the sédula's, will be extended during this period of pandemic. Public Affairs is currently renewing an average of 120 instead of 240 sédula's per day.

This indicates that there must be several sédula's in circulation here on Curaçao that have expired. There is no ideal way to update the sédula's more quickly since gatherings should be avoided as much as possible. This is a measure that must be taken to protect ourselves from contamination with COVID-19. In view of the importance that a person can identify himself in the context of Article 3 of the National Ordinance on Identity Cards, Public Affairs hereby informs that a sédula whose validity has expired will be extended by seven (7) months.

This means that seven (7) months may be added to the date until when the sédula is valid;

A reminder to anyone who has a valid permanent or temporary residence permit to reside in Curaçao. These persons must carry their permit with them at all times together with their expired sédula;

Sédula's that have expired before June 1, 2020 are no longer valid, even with the seven (7) additional months.

For more information, you can always contact the Permits Desk at their temporary telephone number 434-1690.
