Silvania denies that ADC will resume laboratory services for Curaçao Medical Center (CMC)

WILLEMSTAD – Interim Minister of Public Health Javier Silvania has denied that the Analytical Diagnostic Center (ADC) will resume laboratory services for Curaçao Medical Center (CMC).

Multiple sources involved in the situation between ADC and CMC stated that Inspector General Silving Keli had a meeting with both organizations, after which the diagnostic center and the hospital apparently reached an agreement, with CMC agreeing to pay part of the outstanding debt. Sources also mentioned that CMC confirmed that ADC had accepted a proposal made by the hospital a few weeks ago, mentioning a debt of 700,000 florins. Minister Silvania indicates that this is not the case.

The situation has become even more difficult for CMC, as ADC has placed a lien on CMC's accounts at the Social Insurance Bank (SVB). Last week, ADC reduced its services for CMC and explained that it is considering legal steps and other measures to collect all outstanding payments. As a result, CMC is receiving limited services from ADC, for which they are paying in advance. Furthermore, CMC has not paid more than 14 million florins for services provided by ADC to the hospital in the past. Due to CMC's lack of payment, ADC is facing significant financial problems, which is why ADC has taken measures.

The director of ADC, Liane Virginia-Cova, explained this to Health Inspector Sirving Keli in writing last week. She explained to Keli that some time ago, the Tax Service placed a lien on ADC through the Social Insurance Bank (SVB). "We are in dialogue about this. As you know, ADC is facing financial problems. This is because a significant portion of ADC's revenue depends on payment from CMC. CMC needs to pay for ADC's services, but they either do not do so or do not pay everything. There has been a lot of discussion about this."

Virginia-Cova emphasized that ADC remains in a financially difficult situation because CMC does not pay ADC properly. Consequently, ADC cannot guarantee the provision of care services in Curaçao, especially those related to what ADC provides to CMC. "It is clear that ADC currently has no other option. ADC did not voluntarily decide to take measures that would affect the provision of care services in Curaçao."
