WILLEMSTAD - Regarding the investigation "Tres Belle", which focuses on human trafficking and human smuggling in the Hot Chicks Bar, all suspects were suspended from pre-trial detention a few weeks ago. The examining magistrate had decided this. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) did not agree with regard to 3 of the 5 suspects and appealed this decision of the judge to the Court of Appeal.
The Public Prosecution Service argued, among other things, that it should be clear to everyone that trafficking in human beings is a serious offense, that this type of crime is now being tackled with the available capacity and that it is not appropriate for the suspects to be set free too soon. Such release complicates the already difficult approach to human trafficking.
The Court apparently agrees with the OM on this point. The Court has decided that the two main suspects from the Tres Belle investigation must be taken back to detention. The other suspects may await further investigation in freedom, in view of their - apparently - less prominent role in the case. The decision that the 2 main suspects must be taken in detention again will be implemented in the shortest possible time.
