SVB does not substantiate CMC compensation

WILLEMSTAD - The Social Insurance Bank (SVB) has never explained why only part of the costs for their patients are reimbursed. The budget for the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is 185 million guilders. According to the management of the CMC, a cost-effective budget for this year would be 227.3 million guilders.

This was brought up on Monday in a meeting of parliament. The amount of the budget is determined based on the care performance per care type and the associated rate. “SVB would have used the rates from 2001 and has not based the reimbursement on the care demand of 2021,” according to the Government Accounts Agency Foundation (SOAB).

According to the Minister of Health, Environment and Nature, Dorothy Pietersz-Janga, the Pisas government is making an effort to find a sustainable solution for affordable care. This applies to all healthcare institutions on the island. Health authorities are investigating the rates and business operations of the CMC. This makes it clearer what the actual expenses of the hospital are. “The Covid-19 patients and the undocumented are not included in the healthcare budget,” said Pietersz-Janga.

By complying with the agreements in the Country Package, the minister is counting on liquidity support from the Netherlands. Pietersz-Janga indicates that she believes that spending on health care can be reduced by paying as much attention as possible to prevention.
