Tax revenue higher than before the pandemic

Main news | By Correspondent April 11, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - In the first quarter of 2022, more than 365 million guilders in taxes were collected on Curaçao. That is even higher than before the outbreak of the pandemic. This is reported by the Ministry of Finance.

In 2021, the Tax and Customs Administration collected almost 283 million guilders, but then Curaçao was still fully in the COVID-19 crisis. In 2020, more than 307 million guilders were collected in the first three months. In pre-COVID year 2019, almost 352 million guilders in tax were collected in the same period.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the tax authorities are working hard to increase tax revenues. This approach is bearing fruit.

The tax revenues for the month of March are 48.7 million guilders higher than last year. The amount is even 32.7 million guilders higher than budgeted. The increase is mainly explained by profit and sales tax. In March, profit tax revenues amounted to almost 60 million guilders. That is more than 27 million guilders compared to 2021.
