The Dutch government wants to see and investment plan before helping Curaçao’s economy grow

WILLEMSTAD, THE HAGUE - According to the Growth Agreement, the government of Curaçao had to present an investment plan by mid-September 2019. This entails a list of all the projects for the economic development. But there are indications that up until now there are still nothing concrete and it has been five months already since the deadline. Except for a website and some known projects, the government remains silent on the subject.

All there is now is a website launched by the government www.unkursouprospero.com. More than that is still not available. The Netherlands wants to see an investment bank to implement all these economic projects. Through article 5 of the signed covenant, the Netherlands is instructing Curaçao to capitalize the Invest Curaçao institution.

This will give Curaçao the right to borrow from Dutch funds, the sum of 180 million guilders distributed in three years. Invest Curaçao will receive the sum of 180 million to help stimulate the economy through the capital account. Furthermore, Invest Curaçao will receive an additional 60 million guilders from the sale of the United Telecommunication Service (UTS) which is currently in an account held by the Central Bank. In that same article 5 in the Growth Agreement, paragraph 3, the Netherlands instructs Curaçao to continue capitalizing Invest Curaçao, by all necessary means e.g. sale of properties and government owned companies.
