WILLEMSTAD — Three young baseball players from Curaçao have signed their first professional contracts with organizations from Major League Baseball, marking another significant milestone for the island’s strong baseball tradition.

According to local media reports, Timothy Mogen has signed with the San Diego Padres, Dshawn Martina has joined the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Franjean Haseth has put pen to paper with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Timothy Mogen signs with San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres announced that shortstop Timothy Mogen will receive a signing bonus of USD 600,000. The organization described Mogen as a very fast player with strong game awareness and solid hitting ability, qualities that made him a highly regarded prospect.

Dshawn Martina signed his contract later in the day in Willemstad, in the presence of family members, friends, and his agent. Representatives of the Arizona Diamondbacks were also present during the signing ceremony, which marked a major personal and professional milestone for the young player.

The Los Angeles Dodgers also expanded their roster with the addition of Franjean Haseth, an outfielder known for his discipline and balanced defensive and offensive skills. Haseth began his youth baseball career in Curaçao with Koraalspecht and later played for Tra’i Seru. Beyond his on-field performance, he is widely regarded as a role model for younger players training at the same academy.

In addition to these signings, it is expected that another Curaçao prospect, Sherrintley Da Costa Gomez Jr., will sign his first professional contract with the Atlanta Braves later today. If confirmed, this would further increase the number of Curaçao-born players entering the professional ranks, underscoring the island’s continued impact on international baseball.
