WILLEMSTAD - The total is now 24 political parties that have registered their candidate list yesterday at the Supreme Electoral Council. This is a record-breaking number.

Seventeen of these parties are new. This is four more than in the previous election.

Not all of these seventeen parties are new, but none of them are now in parliament. This means that they will have to get support in the primaries which will be on January 30 and 31. The new candidates will present themselves for the preliminary election. Each party must then be able to collect at least 788 votes. If that succeeds, they can participate in the parliamentary elections on 19 March.

Two political parties ultimately did not submit a candidates list. For example, the leader of the LKKK party, Josefina Josepha, did not show up at all, according to the chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council. In the case of Edward Koeiman's Partido Politiko Kunukero, things were different. Koeiman is known as Rasta Moses and wears a mask as standard for religious reasons. Because he refused to take off his mask in the WTC, he could not be identified and thus not submit a candidates list.

One party, on the other hand, reported at the last minute. Robert de Jesus came without supporters and submitted his candidate list for the party "Koperativa i Patriotiko" half an hour before closing time.
