Tropical storm towards Curaçao: heavy thunderstorms on the way

WILLEMSTAD - The Meteorological Service (Meteo) warns of heavy thunderstorms as a result of a tropical storm that can threaten parts of Curaçao from 6pm The Meteo issues a precautionary measure with code yellow.

The Meteo believes that the tropical storm could progress to a tropical cyclone and lead to heavy rainfall, resulting in local flooding or landslides. Furthermore, the Meteo expects heavy gusts of wind that can cause damage.

The severe thunderstorms can last from 6pm to noon on Saturday.

The Meteo recommends avoiding the use of electrical equipment during a thunderstorm and unplugging all electrical equipment. Loose objects must be secured, and it is recommended to find a safe place.

Boat owners are advised not to sail and to secure vessels properly. Swimming is also not recommended.

The next Meteo advisory will be issued on Saturday at 9:00am.
