WILLEMSTAD - It is not yet known when business owners can apply for support through the NOW scheme for the month of June. The Curaçao government first needs the money from the Netherlands for this.
And it remains to be seen whether and when the Netherlands will provide the next tranche of liquidity support. Curaçao still does not meet the conditions for this. First, the required 25 percent cut on the employment conditions of ministers and members of parliament must be laid down in law. And for this, the Pisas cabinet is waiting for the cooperation of parliament.
A week and a half ago, the Kingdom Council of Ministers decided that Curaçao will be granted the liquidity support - totaling 168 million guilders - in partial tranches and that further conditions and timelines have now been determined. And it is Undersecretary Raymond Knops who can now decide on this, outside the Kingdom Council of Ministers.
As long as Knops does not give the green light, the Ministry of Economic Development cannot yet give business owners a date on which they can submit a request for support for June 2021.
