Union federation: "Confidence in government is declining"

Main news | By Correspondent November 5, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The trade union federation Sentral Solidaridat Sindikal has lost confidence in the government because there is no concrete plan to combat job losses.

The tension on the Curaçao labor market is increasing by the day. The federation says in a statement that it is not satisfied with the way the government is dealing with issues such as employment and social conditions. In particular, the split between Refineria di Korsou (RdK) and Curaçao Oil Refinery Complex (CORC) as a potential candidate for the takeover of the refinery has hit the union headquarters hard.

The federation is very concerned about the labor situation on the island. “All our experts leave Curaçao in search of a better life in another country. As a result, we lose capable and experienced workers who are able to, for example, keep the refinery running," according to the union federation.

The work situation requires immediate attention. “There is no more time for sweet talk and empty promises”, concludes the federation.
