THE HAGUE - The University of Curaçao is involved in an independent investigation into the Dutch slavery history. This is according to Minister Hanke Bruins Slot of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives.
The research is intended to gain insight into events during slavery and organizations or institutions that were involved. Bruins Slot confirms that the research is being written by various scientific institutes. “I conducted a broad field survey among scientists and social parties and I was informed about the development of urban research on this subject,” said the minister.
The working group consists of representatives of the Royal Institute of Linguistics, Land- and Ethnology (KITLV), the International Institute of Social History (IISH), the University of Curaçao and the National Institute of Dutch Slavery History and Legacy (NiNsee). The study will be completed by 2023 at the latest. The results of the study will be presented to the House of Representatives.
