WILLEMSTAD - The University of Curaçao (UoC) wants to improve online education, online tests and digital skills at the UoC. For this reason, several university teachers received training on online teaching.

The UoC has started offering some of the programs online since 2014, but due to the corona crisis, all lessons had to be given online at once. "Partly due to the consequences of the corona pandemic, the need for professionalization in the field of online education has increased, strengthened and accelerated," said UoC.

In a short time, all lecturers at the UoC had to switch to one hundred percent online education and testing. According to the university, the teachers needed in-depth training on recent developments in digital didactics, assessment and digital skills that 21st century teachers should have.

That is why the UoC has started the 'Certificate of Online Teaching and Assessment' (COTA) process. In this training, the teachers learn everything about the so-called '21st century skills'. On Friday, the first 22 teachers received their certificate. The professionalization process will soon be organized for the next group of UoC lecturers.

The UoC aims to be able to offer at least 75 percent of its programs online in the future.
