WILLEMSTAD - The number of tourists who are allowed to visit Curaçao per month has been increased to 20,000. Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath announced this on Tuesday during a press conference. The measures that were introduced three weeks ago to prevent the spread of the corona virus will be extended by two weeks.
Since July 1, the government has allowed a maximum number of 10,000 passengers per month. This was increased to 20,000 after crisis consultation last weekend. Separate agreements are made with airlines by the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP).
New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Canada are no longer among the risk countries as of today. The government will soon publish a new list of risk countries.
During the press conference, it was also announced that the measures in phase 3 will be extended by two weeks, including the curfew. In addition, gatherings of 50 people are no longer allowed.
Epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth said the number of infections is stable, but too high. The positivity rate must go down, according to the doctor. It will be examined in two weeks whether it is possible to scale down.
