WASHINGTON, WILLEMSTAD - As it is now customary, the U.S. Secretary of State congratulated Curaçao on its national day, October 10. On that day 9 years ago, Curaçao became an independent country in the Dutch Kingdom.

The message from the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo:

On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend congratulations to the people of Curacao on Curacao Day.

The United States is proud of our enduring partnership with Curacao, including our collaboration through the U.S. Caribbean Resilience Partnership.  As we approach the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the United States remembers Curacao’s contribution to Caribbean security, and to the Allied victory.  We value our strong partnership and recognize Curacao’s generosity and sacrifice in hosting displaced Venezuelan refugees.  We look forward to continuing our work with Curacao to address the challenges posed by Venezuela in the region.

The United States wishes the people of Curacao a happy Curacao Day.
