Vaccination passport in the Caribbean on June 21

Main news | By Correspondent May 31, 2021

THE HAGUE - On June 21, the European vaccination certificate must also be available in the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. That is the answer of the Dutch Undersecretary Blokhuis to written questions from Members of Parliament Jorien Wuite and Jan Paternotte, both from the D66 party.

Whether that date is met depends on whether a solution is quickly found for a number of practical issues. “Because the residents on the islands do not have a BSN - and therefore no DigiD - the residents of the islands who want a vaccination certificate fall under the exception route to request a vaccination certificate. I am talking about this with the BES islands (Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius),” says Blokhuis.

Committees

“Committees have been formed to discuss the preparations for vaccination certificates and the introduction of the digital green certificate in the CAS countries (Curaçao, Aruba, St. Maarten) and the BES islands. The developments surrounding the digital green certificate at national and European level are indicated on the certificate and whether the use of the digital green certificate is considered expedient by the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom.

“The EU claim also addresses the certificates issued in the European overseas territories. This means that the target date of 21 June also applies to the CAS countries and BES islands,” says Blokhuis. This confirms that with the digital green certificate it is also possible to travel between the European overseas territories and countries.
