WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao's voter registration for the upcoming parliamentary elections will close on December 24. On this date, the Electoral Council will finalize the list of eligible voters. To vote, individuals must be registered as residents of Curaçao, hold Dutch nationality, and be at least 18 years old by March 20, 2025. Voters meeting these criteria can cast their ballots on March 21, 2025.

The Electoral Council is responsible for organizing and overseeing the election process, ensuring fairness and transparency. Along with determining the election results, the Council ensures a free and secret vote, taking measures to keep the process efficient and orderly.

Several key dates have been set for the elections. On January 23, candidates can officially submit their lists at the new Electoral Council office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Interested individuals can join an informational session on November 14 to learn about the election procedures.

Preliminary elections for parties without parliamentary seats are scheduled for February 1 and 2. To qualify, a party must secure at least 848 votes, equating to 1% of the valid votes from the previous election. Twelve polling stations will be available for these preliminary elections.

On February 7, candidate lists will be finalized, after which no changes can be made. On February 13, the Electoral Council will assign each participating party a number and color for the ballots.

On election day, March 21, the Electoral Council will open 107 polling stations, including one at the SDKK prison. To ensure a free and transparent election, 1,500 people will be involved in the process. The windows of polling stations will be kept open, allowing the public to observe the vote count.

The official election results will be announced on March 26, and the new parliament is set to convene for the first time on May 11, 2025.
