Wednesday clarity about delay response COHO

THE HAGUE - The Committee for Kingdom Relations of the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament will make a decision on Wednesday about the postponement that the Parliaments of Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten have requested. A spokesperson for the committee reports this to the local Dutch news site NU.cw. The islands want more time to respond to the Kingdom Act and the establishment of the Caribbean Agency for Reform and Development (COHO).

The Chamber has received a letter from the CAS islands formally requesting a postponement for submitting the report on the Kingdom Act proposal. In addition, Aruba has also requested a postponement of the Kingdom Act for financial supervision on the island. The Parliaments of all four countries may submit a written report in which they can put questions about the bill to the State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Alexandra van Huffelen.

The National Office for the Caribbean Netherlands reported in February that Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands have reached an agreement on submitting the proposal for the Kingdom Act. The islands previously drew attention to a number of concerns regarding the enforceability of the law within the constitutional legal order, including ensuring policy space and government autonomy.

The request for the postponement is on the committee's agenda for Wednesday.
