WILLEMSTAD - All youngsters from 12 years old in Curaçao can also be vaccinated against the corona virus starting tomorrow. They will then receive the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

Young people can only be vaccinated on Wednesdays and Fridays. They must go to vaccination location SEHOS 1, that is the old outpatient clinic of the hospital, entrance Breedestraat. This is possible from tomorrow, July 7th. Parental or guardian consent is required.

The Curaçao government made the decision after the Health Council in the Netherlands had recently indicated that the Pfizer vaccine is safe for this target group. According to the Health Council, vaccination also provides young people with direct health benefits. “The direct damage to health from corona is often not great for young people. However, the virus can also cause serious complications and hospitalization in young people, and they can suffer from it considerably and for a long time (Long Covid).”

All adults in Curaçao are currently receiving the Moderna vaccine. However, no official approval has yet been given for Moderna for administration to young people under 18. Last weekend the students, who will soon leave for the Netherlands, were already vaccinated with Pfizer. And Curaçao has sufficient stock of this vaccine to now also include all young people from 12 years of age in the vaccination campaign.
