WILLEMSTAD — The well-known Livingstone Jan Thiel Resort on Curaçao will soon continue operations under the Sonesta brand, marking the return of the international hotel group to the island.

According to information now confirmed, the name change is scheduled to take place in the second quarter of this year. Ownership of the resort will remain with Corendon, which will also continue to manage the property and act as a franchisepartner of the Sonesta hotel chain.

The resort is located approximately 150 meters from Jan Thiel Beach and consists of 250 hotel rooms and apartments, spread across 95 buildings. It is one of the more prominent resort complexes in the Jan Thiel area, a popular destination for both tourists and long-stay visitors.

Sonesta is a well-established name in the international hospitality industry. In the Caribbean, the brand is widely recognized for its large resort located near the runway of the airport in Sint Maarten. The hotel group was also active in the Dutch Caribbean in the 1990s, operating properties on Aruba and Bonaire, and had a brief presence on Curaçao between 2015 and 2016.

The rebranding reflects a broader trend of international hotel brands strengthening their presence in Curaçao’s tourism sector through franchise and management agreements, while local or regional investors retain ownership.

Further details about renovations, service changes or the official opening under the Sonesta name have not yet been announced.
