Main News, Tourism, | By Correspondent February 3, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s cruise sector achieved a historic milestone in 2025, welcoming 883,000 cruise passengers, marking the highest annual total on record, the Curaçao Ports Authority announced. The figure represents a six percent increase compared with 2024 and underscores continued growth in the island’s maritime tourism industry.

According to official figures, 250 cruise ships called at Curaçao’s port during the year, contributing to the record-breaking passenger numbers and driving stronger tourism activity on the island. The average occupancy rate for cruise vessels was reported at 91 percent, reflecting strong demand and sustained interest in Curaçao as a destination within the Caribbean cruise circuit.

Interport Milestone and Economic Impact

One of the highlights of 2025 was Curaçao’s role as an interport for the first time in November. This means that some cruise itineraries began or ended directly in Curaçao, a development that is expected to enhance the island’s profile and encourage more diverse cruise routes in future seasons.

While cruise tourism has surged, broader tourism trends also point to a successful year for the island. In addition to cruise arrivals, stayover tourism remained robust, with Curaçao welcoming record numbers of visitors by air, further solidifying its reputation as a leading Caribbean destination.

Stable Cargo Activity and Future Plans

Cargo operations at the port continued to grow steadily in 2025. The harbour processed 107,000 standard containers, equivalent to nearly one million tons of cargo, reflecting a 2 percent increase compared with the previous year. Despite global economic uncertainties, demand for handling services remained stable, supporting local logistics and trade sectors.

The Ports Authority also highlighted additional maritime activity, such as maintenance work for offshore oil platforms in the Caracasbaai and Sint Michiel areas, which helped generate extra business for local companies.

Despite the strong performance, the authority stressed that continued investment in infrastructure is necessary to maintain and further expand Curaçao’s position as a key maritime hub in the region. Enhancements to port facilities, improved passenger amenities and deeper collaboration with cruise lines are expected to support growth in coming years.

Looking Ahead

With the cruise industry showing resilience and expansion worldwide, Curaçao’s record year in 2025 positions the island to build on its strengths. The combination of robust cruise numbers, healthy cargo volumes and strategic enhancements to tourism services paints a promising picture for the future of Curaçao’s maritime and travel sectors.

For the tourism industry, the sustained cruise traffic contributes significantly to the local economy by boosting demand for excursions, dining, retail and cultural experiences, while also stimulating job creation in related service sectors.

Curaçao now looks toward maintaining momentum into 2026, with stakeholders aiming to attract even more cruise visitors and to elevate the island’s status as a premier Caribbean port of call.
