Scuba Lodge expands with the acquisition of Bahia Apartments Lagun

• Boutique hotel Scuba Lodge & Ocean Suites in Pietermaai is expanding with the acquisition of Bahia Apartments & Diving in Lagun.
• The hotel in Lagun will continue under the name Scuba Lodge Lagun Beach.
• Hotel guests can book special arrangements that allow them to spend part of their stay at the Pietermaai location and part at the new location in Lagun.

WILLEMSTAD — Boutique hotel Scuba Lodge & Ocean Suites, known for its iconic historic façades in Pietermaai, is expanding with the acquisition of Bahia Apartments & Diving in Lagun. Effective immediately, the characterful hotel will continue under the name Scuba Lodge Lagun Beach, led by Olvert Sophia and Christina Sieperda.

Bahia Apartments & Diving was founded 21 years ago by Peter and Thea Koster and, over the years, built a strong reputation thanks to its unique seaside location, relaxed atmosphere, and close connection to nature and the local community. It grew into a successful operation with 19 apartments and a team of 34 employees. Peter and Thea Koster explain: “Bahia has been our heart and pride for many years. After more than two decades of building Bahia, we have consciously chosen to devote more time to our family and create space for our personal hobbies.”

Both Olvert Sophia and Christina Sieperda are well acquainted with the island and the hospitality industry. Christina has been active in tourism on Curaçao since 2004 and has closely witnessed the sector’s development and growth over the years. This broad experience forms an important foundation for the further development of the project in Lagun. Olvert, Yu di Kòrsou (a native of Curaçao), has long combined his work as a lecturer in tourism education on the island with entrepreneurship. Drawing from this blend of education, business experience, and his strong connection to Curaçao, he looks forward to putting his knowledge and vision into practice through this new project.

Guests of Scuba Lodge can now book special arrangements that combine a stay at the Pietermaai location with a stay at the new location in Lagun. Olvert Sophia explains: “Scuba Lodge now offers two completely different locations: one within walking distance of the heart of Willemstad, and one surrounded by nature.” Christina Sieperda adds: “For more than 15 years, Scuba Lodge has been known for personal hospitality and professional service in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. These values will continue at our new location. We look forward to welcoming both returning and new guests.”
