WILLEMSTAD – Sonesta International Hotels Corporation has announced the signing of an agreement for the development of a new Sonesta hotel in Curaçao, further strengthening the company’s presence in the Dutch Caribbean. The new property will be located near Jan Thiel Beach and Willemstad, two of the island’s most popular areas for tourism and leisure.

According to Sonesta, the agreement reflects the company’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in Latin America and the Caribbean. Keith Pierce, Executive Vice President and President of Franchise and Development at Sonesta, said the project underscores the company’s commitment to growth in the region and its confidence in Curaçao as a sought-after destination.

Sonesta is no stranger to the Dutch Caribbean. The hotel group previously operated properties in Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao during the 1990s, and returned to Curaçao again in the 2015–2016 period. With the new agreement, Sonesta is once again positioning itself as an active player in the local hospitality market.

The new hotel is expected to join the Sonesta portfolio in early Q2. It will operate under the Sonesta Hotels, Resorts & Cruises brand, which emphasizes wellness and well-being, meaningful connections between staff and guests, and a strong link between each property and its surrounding environment.

Guests can expect accommodations inspired by Curaçao’s character, along with a mix of indoor and outdoor amenities and work-friendly spaces designed to meet the needs of both leisure and business travelers.

The announcement adds to a growing list of new and planned hotel developments on the island, signaling continued confidence in Curaçao’s tourism sector and its long-term growth potential.
