Winter Weather in Europe Continues to Disrupt Flights Between Curaçao and the Netherlands

WILLEMSTAD – Air traffic between Curaçao and the Netherlands remains under pressure after a series of flight disruptions caused by both geopolitical tensions and severe winter weather in Europe.

After flights operated by TUI, KLM and Corendon were cancelled last Saturday due to the military developments in Venezuela, airlines had planned to deploy additional flights from Sunday onward to accommodate stranded passengers. However, those recovery efforts have been significantly hampered by heavy snowfall and winter conditions in the Netherlands.

The Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA) confirmed that the number of flights has remained limited because of the weather situation at Dutch airports. Snow and ice have affected airport operations, leading to further delays and cancellations despite earlier plans to normalize schedules.

In a statement, Schiphol Airport said that ground crews are working around the clock to keep runways operational. Aircraft are being carefully de-iced to ensure passenger safety, but the airport warned that winter conditions are expected to continue disrupting flight schedules in the coming days.

As a result, travelers to and from Curaçao may continue to face delays or last-minute changes. Airlines and local authorities are urging passengers to closely monitor flight updates and remain in contact with their carriers as recovery operations continue under challenging conditions.
