CITRO Curaçao Assists Coast Guard in Recovering Stranded Boat at Spaanse Water

Local, | By Correspondent December 16, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – CITRO Curaçao successfully assisted in the recovery of a boat that ran aground on rocks in the Spaanse Water area on Thursday evening. The Coast Guard called in CITRO after several earlier attempts by other vessels to free the boat proved unsuccessful.

Using its rescue vessel Dick Braakman, CITRO was able to pull the stranded boat off the rocks with relative ease. The operation relied on the powerful jet-propelled engines of the rescue boat combined with a heavy-duty towline, allowing the vessel to be freed safely without further complications.

After being removed from the rocks, the boat was towed to a nearby marina, where it was lifted out of the water for securing and inspection. Initial assessments indicate that the material damage to the vessel appears to be limited.

The coordinated effort highlights the importance of specialized rescue equipment and cooperation between emergency services in ensuring maritime safety in Curaçao’s busy waterways.
