WILLEMSTAD – In the early hours of Monday, January 26, the Maritime Operations Center of the Coast Guard received a distress call from a cargo vessel sailing near Curaçao. A crew member on board required urgent medical assistance after becoming seriously unwell.
According to the report, colleagues found the crew member lying on the floor and immediately raised the alarm. Personnel at the Maritime Operations Center contacted the duty physician of CITRO, who determined that the patient needed prompt medical treatment at the Curaçao Medical Center.
Following this assessment, the Coast Guard helicopter was immediately deployed and dispatched to the cargo ship. The patient was evacuated by helicopter and transported to Hato, Curaçao.
Upon arrival, an ambulance was standing by to transfer the patient to the Curaçao Medical Center, where further medical treatment was provided.
The operation was carried out by the Kustwacht Caribisch Gebied as part of its maritime emergency response duties.
