AMSTERDAM – The Dutch romantic comedy Verliefd op Curaçao opens in cinemas across the Netherlands starting tomorrow. The feelgood film, directed by Johan Nijenhuis, is set on Curaçao and showcases the island as a sunny and romantic backdrop.
The story centers on Merel, played by Isa Hoes, and her son Lars, who is preparing to marry his fiancée Bella. As a surprise, Lars invites his single mother on a trip to Curaçao, but fails to tell her that the holiday is in fact a singles retreat.
Once on the island, the group meets Ozzie, a Curaçaoan artist, and his sister Louella, who acts as the guide for the singles. The storyline is further complicated by journalist Malti, who joins the group undercover with the intention of writing a critical article about the modern search for love.
The film features a cast that includes Isa Hoes, Tarikh Janssen, Joy Delima, Jasmine Sendar, Kasper van Kooten, Fedja Louman and Ghislaine van IJperen.
With its tropical setting and lighthearted tone, the film is expected to appeal to audiences looking for escapism and romance, while also drawing attention to Curaçao as a destination for Dutch cinema and tourism.
