WASHINGTON, WILLEMSTAD - The Government of Curaçao has decided to restore its senior representation at the Dutch Embassy in Washington D.C., marking a renewed effort to strengthen the island’s international and Kingdom-level engagement. As part of this decision, Jérôme Beeldsnijder has been appointed as Plenipotentiary Minister of Curaçao at the Dutch Embassy in the United States, effective February 1, 2026.
With the reinstatement of this high-level representation, Curaçao aims to further reinforce its strategic position within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and on the international stage. The mandate of the Plenipotentiary Minister will focus on deepening international cooperation and safeguarding Curaçao’s interests in the areas of geopolitics, security and justice, as well as economic cooperation and broader international positioning.
In his new role, Beeldsnijder will work to strengthen and expand international relations, promote Curaçao’s economic interests and identify new opportunities for the island, and build and maintain strategic geopolitical networks to ensure Curaçao’s interests are effectively represented. He will also seek to further enhance judicial cooperation, including the exchange of knowledge and expertise, while advancing key policy priorities of the Government of Curaçao in areas such as education, sports and culture. Particular attention will be given to promoting access to affordable education in the United States for young people from Curaçao.
The renewed presence of a senior representative in Washington D.C. aligns with Curaçao’s broader strategy to strengthen its international relationships. Aruba also maintains a high-level representation at the Dutch Embassy in Washington D.C., highlighting shared interests within the Kingdom framework.
