WILLEMSTAD – On Thursday, January 22, Minister Tyron Boekhoudt of Public Health, Environment and Nature paid a working visit to the management of the Social Insurance Bank (SVB).

During the visit, discussions focused on several key issues affecting Curaçao’s healthcare sector, which are high on the agenda of both Minister Boekhoudt and the SVB. Central topics included the development of a multi-year disease prevention plan, the restructuring of primary healthcare on the island, the reduction of waiting lists at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC), and the medical costs associated with the care of undocumented individuals.
It was agreed that follow-up consultations will take place in the near future to further discuss concrete actions needed to implement effective solutions in each of these areas. The discussions will focus on healthcare policies administered by the SVB on behalf of the government, with particular emphasis on reducing waiting times for specialist care and surgical procedures at the Curaçao Medical Center.
The working visit forms part of the minister’s broader effort to gain direct insight into institutional challenges and to strengthen coordination between the Ministry and key healthcare partners.
