WILLEMSTAD – Member of Parliament Sheldry Osepa of the PNP has accused the Prime Minister of negligence in an ongoing labor dispute at Kas di Kòrsou, describing the situation as a serious failure of leadership. The criticism is contained in a formal letter and a set of parliamentary questions addressed to the Minister of General Affairs.
According to Osepa, an employee of Kas di Kòrsou has been involved in a labor conflict for an extended period, while the government has failed to intervene despite earlier warnings from Parliament. He argues that the lack of action has allowed the dispute to escalate unnecessarily.
Osepa further states that public remarks made by the Prime Minister have weakened the position of the employees involved, rather than contributing to a solution. In his questions, the PNP parliamentarian asks what concrete steps the government has taken to safeguard labor rights and whether assurances can be given that the employee concerned will not face retaliation as a result of the conflict.
The issue, Osepa says, goes beyond an individual labor dispute and touches on principles of good governance and the government’s duty of care as a shareholder. As the sole or majority shareholder in Kas di Kòrsou, the government carries responsibility for ensuring proper management and fair treatment of staff.
Osepa also points out that the matter has been raised previously in Parliament. The PAR faction had earlier called on the government to intervene, but according to Osepa, those calls have so far gone unanswered.
The Minister of General Affairs has yet to formally respond to the questions.
