New Board Elected During Annual General Meeting of Consular Corps of Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – The Annual General Meeting of the Consular Corps of Curaçao was held on the evening of January 30, 2026, at the Avila Beach Resort, bringing together members of the diplomatic community for elections and discussions on the year ahead.

During the meeting, a new board was elected. Ralph Obersi, Honorary Consul of Mexico, was elected as Dean of the Consular Corps. The position of Vice-Dean was filled by Ramon 'Chico' Negron of the United States Consulate. Carl St Remy, Consul General of Haiti, was elected Secretary, while Kurt Jackson, Honorary Consul of Jamaica, will serve as Treasurer. The board is further composed of Roberto Ibarra, Vice-Consul at the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic, and Lisanne Asjes, Honorary Consul of Sweden, as board members.

Following the election, the newly appointed Dean addressed those present and expressed his appreciation to the outgoing board for its work during 2025. He offered special thanks to Omar Van Der Dijs, Honorary Consul of Spain, for hosting and sponsoring a New Year’s reception for members of the Consular Corps the previous day, as well as for his long-standing contributions to the organization.

Obersi also thanked all members of the Consular Corps who attended the meeting, as well as those who submitted proxy votes, noting that the election process was marked by full confidence in the outgoing board, with no votes cast against it. He indicated that the coming year would place greater emphasis on structure and implementation, reflecting feedback received from members.

Looking ahead, the new Dean outlined the board’s objectives for the year, including organizing more outreach events and strengthening engagement with the government and other organizations relevant to the countries represented within the Consular Corps. He emphasized that the board remains open to suggestions from members that could lead to constructive improvements and help achieve the organization’s goals.

In closing, Obersi expressed his hope that all members of the Consular Corps will actively participate in upcoming events and meetings, underscoring the importance of collaboration and shared commitment to the work of the diplomatic community in Curaçao.
