WILLEMSTAD – Labor union DOEN says that the planned meeting with Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Sithree van Heydoorn on Friday is currently its main priority. This was stated in a press release issued by the union.
According to DOEN, preparations for the meeting are central at this stage. The consultation is expected to provide clarity regarding a list of reported labor abuses that the union submitted on January 7. That submission followed a request by the minister for additional details, including the names of those involved, the schools and school boards concerned, and the nature of the alleged misconduct.
The union indicated that it will only respond substantively to the minister’s recent media statements after the meeting has taken place. Until then, DOEN says it is concentrating fully on the consultation process.
In its statement, the union also called on its members and education workers more broadly to remain vigilant while awaiting the outcome of the talks.
