World news | By Correspondent January 20, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – A Dutch national has been arrested in Colombia on suspicion of human trafficking, according to reports published on Tuesday. The man, identified as Jacob Brett B., was detained in the Colombian capital Bogotá during a covert operation carried out by the Colombian National Police in cooperation with Interpol.

Authorities say the suspect was wanted by Dutch law enforcement in connection with a human trafficking investigation and is likely to be extradited to the Netherlands. He is accused of being part of an international criminal network that allegedly lured women to Amsterdam for illegal prostitution.

During the same operation, a Colombian woman identified as Laura Castro was also arrested. Both suspects were the subject of an international “red notice” issued by Interpol, signaling that they were being sought worldwide for serious criminal offenses.

According to investigators, the two are believed to be leading figures within a criminal organization operating between Colombia and several European countries. The network allegedly focused on recruiting, transporting and exploiting Colombian women in Europe.

Colombian authorities have not released further details about the timeline for extradition proceedings, but Dutch officials are expected to formally request the transfer of the Dutch suspect to face prosecution in the Netherlands.

The arrests highlight ongoing international efforts to combat human trafficking networks that operate across borders and exploit vulnerable individuals for profit.
